For over 20 years, customers have turned to EOS Remediation for natural, science-driven solutions for aquifer and soil decontamination. Now, increasingly, sustainability and green remediation are not only good for the environment, but also good for business. In 2020, the Sustainable remediation column from Remediation magazine summarized the growth in our industry stating, “the remediation industry examined the highly consumptive nature of its extractive remedies,” and, “made enormous strides in developing and improving cleanup methodologies that take advantage of natural biologic or chemical processes to permanently transform or destroy contaminants”.
New guidance released in 2021 indicates continued focus on sustainability in 2022 and beyond:
- April 2021: the Interstate Technology Regulatory Counsel (ITRC) replaced their 2011 Technical and Regulatory Guidance: Green and Sustainable Remediation: A Practical Framework with Sustainable Resilient Remediation SRR-1 to include considerations for sustainability and resilience in all phases of a projects’ lifespan, and
- December 2021: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released an update of the Green Remediation Best Management Practices: Bioremediation fact sheet.
Choose EOS Remediation, and let us help build your reputation for sustainable responsibility.
- EOS Remediation offers technical support throughout your project’s life cycle. Contacting us during your assessment-phase can reduce later mobilizations and site disturbance.
- We can reduce your carbon footprint and transportation costs by taking advantage of our network of manufacturing facilities strategically located throughout the United States and Europe.
- Our products are prepared from U.S.-grown, renewable sources and certified BioPreferred by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to increase U.S. energy security.
- In a detailed evaluation of remedial alternatives, Lemming et al. (2010) found that Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination (ERD) will reduce life-cycle impacts of remediation remarkably compared to in-situ thermal desorption or excavation.

In addition to selecting EOS’ green chemistries for your site, there are a variety of tools available to you for selecting and evaluating Greener Cleanups and to incorporate sustainability into every step of your project – not just at the remediation phase:
- Spreadsheets for Environmental Footprint Analysis (SEFA), developed by the EPA, released in 2012 and updated in 2013 and 2019.
- SiteWise™ was developed by Battelle jointly with the Navy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Army and can be downloaded from the Sustainable Remediation Forum (SURF).
- Interstate Technology Regulatory Counsel (ITRC) interactive map of state-level sustainability practices
- ITRC Integrating Resilience and Sustainability into the Remedial Project Life Cycle
